About SME DataLAB42

SME DataLAB, based in LAB42, is an initiative of the University of Amsterdam that supports SMEs in executing digitalization projects as part of the ICAI ROBUST program. A group of pre-selected bachelor’s and master’s students in the fields of Computer Science, AI, and Data Science are matched with companies and projects that align with their experience and education.

Benefits for companies and students

Students are paid for their work and gain highly valuable practical experience, while companies receive high-quality work at a reasonable price from young potential employees with fresh and innovative ideas. Under the guidance of an experienced project leader from LAB42, students carry out projects with a predetermined outcome for companies. The project duration is 8-10 weeks, involving 80 hours of work for a fixed fee of 3,000 euros.

Examples of AI challenges

Here are some examples of AI challenges that SMEs in the Haarlem-Haarlemmermeer and IJmond regions might face:

• Improving production processes through predictive analyses to identify and eliminate bottlenecks;
• Automating repetitive administrative tasks such as invoicing, inventory management, and customer service;
• Using AI to analyze customer data and predict customer behavior, allowing for better-aligned marketing strategies;
• Analyzing sales data to discover trends and optimize sales strategies;
• Implementing recommendation systems for e-commerce websites to provide customers with personalized product recommendations.
